Likhey jo khat tujhe

Mohd Rafi....a voice with that golden touch...I used to always try to avoid singing his songs-simply because they were very tough to sing...that tightness with every word would leave you gasping before the mukhda was over.
Being a complete nut over Kishoreda's style and which also came a little bit naturally to me,i pretty much enjoyed being in his shadow.....
But certain melodies like the one being played, just couldn't keep me from agreeing to gasp for my breath...this time once...
And particularly this song....the words, the lilting music....complete Romance!!!
My dear friend Manoj would pick up the Rafi style easily and i would sometimes wonder how he could do it.
I thought...well let me try it once...
So here's a Romantic song from the film Kanyadaan, starring Asha Parekh & Shashi Kapoor ,with amazing lyrics...Likhey jo khat tujhey....woh teri yaad mein...........hear the rest...

A song which i remember hearing for the first time i was travelling in a video coach from Indore to Mumbai. The movie was 'Agar tum na hote',starring Rajesh Khanna. As soon as this song started,i was completely mesmerised with the way Kishoreda lifted this song to a different high.Though i had not dreamt of singing in those days,i still felt that immense urge to sing this melody to someone i really loved....and lost!Time went on and i forgot that emotion...till there was that moment when this similar situation came in front of me...and i immediately remembered that this was the song,i wanted to sing from my heart now that the time had come...
So here's the song which i'm immensely attached to and which had tears coming into my eyes while recording....
The beauty is that i let them flow.........

Gaata Rahe mera dil

Gaata Rahe Mera Dil........A song which became History! The Romance, the egos, the seperation.....the tragedy in this film GUIDE, alongwith brilliant compositions by SD Burman. You can feel the touch of RD's presence clearly in all these compositions. And in Gaata rahe..the brilliant piece of sax by Manohari Singh in the Antra's makes the song come alive!
Kishoreda has used a unique technique of voice throw here....i had to literally go thru around 5-6 types of voice modulations before i could hit upon the genius's idea of singing this song.
One can imagine at that time how these guys would be composing this kind of composition.
Lata maushi is like ...well...there are no words...she can throw, chuck,do anything and still give the same output.
I was not convinced with many female singers whom i heard which could do justice to this song and i finally decided that if this song had to be enjoyed then it would have to be with the Legend.
I have played the role of the Sound Engineer and Singer, and it was really tough to bring both the vocals on the same pitch, specially since i wanted it to run on the original film soundtrack scale alongwith my track. And Lata Maushi's pitch control....whew!...like a machine...flawless....
Guys & Gals....presenting herewith my first Duet for your patient listening.......
and earnest feedback.....
Gaata Rahe Mera Dil......keep singing...........

Mein Aaya hoon

Thanks for the responses being received and i really appreciate your interest in visiting my blog and encouraging me for doing more............
Here's an exciting number from the film Amir Garib in 1974,sung ofcourse by my mentor/guru the legendary Kishore Kumar, which i have humbly tried to replicate.
This song specially attracted my attention, since it has been sung with the trumpet in the lead and has its beautifully taken ups & downs by Kishoreda for the evergreen Dev Anand.
Syncing this song was a wee bit difficult since it seems while picturising the dance sequence the tempo varies a little.
Hope you'll will appreciate this effort......
